Slightly overgrown, this 3,000 square foot ranch is unassuming. It doesn’t look like much now, but this North Raleigh fixer-upper is sure to be a stunner after we are done with it. We are currently under construction! Before starting demo – this house needed to be cleaned out. There was A-LOT of stuff. We were glad to do it, though, because of the incredible burden it was on the previous owners.
The original idea for this ranch was to open it way up and create a huge open concept living/kitchen/dining… like The House on Drewy Hill… however, that would have required major structural changes and would have increased the budget tremendously. We chose a more conservative approach. The wall between the current formal living and the current dining room will come down. Also, the wall between the current kitchen and dining will also come down. We will then push back the entrance to the basement a bit to have a good view of the kitchen. This will create the feel of an open space for less cost. At first, I was resistent to this idea, but considering the budget, I am 100% on board.
So in the new layout, the current formal living will become the dining room right off of the entry. The existing kitchen will be extended into the current dining room, which will be come an amazing entertaining space. The only space that will remain separate will be the living room.
