The First “Flip”

Our first “flip” wasn’t really a flip, because “flip” implies “fast”. It took 4 years of hard work. We have never looked at a house in the same way and have been Flipping Raleigh ever since.

(We buy houses in all of Wake county and most counties surrounding Wake. If you have a home in or around Raleigh and need it taken care of, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are happy to discuss your property.)

I mean, isn’t that just a specimen of a house? Don’t you see that and say to yourself, “I wish that was mine, gotta have it.” No? Well, call us crazy, but for some reason, we did.

It must have been the ocean blue laminate, faux brick linoleum, or fabulous color choices.

But before we knew it, we were signing papers and exchanging keys.

Blogs such as Young House Love and Remodelaholic became our best friends as we tackled all things DIY on a tight budget, all the while, attempting to make this house a home.

Back then, we did a pretty poor job of documenting “before” and progress pictures. However, we found a few and if you notice the details, you will see how it changed.

It’s hard to believe, but this whole renovation cost around $25,000. It can be done, I tell you! First, before you jump on the fixer-upper train, keep these things in mind:

  • There were almost no labor costs
  • We scoured craigslist daily
  • Took on no debt (in fact we actively paid off debt)
  • It took 4 years
  • And we lived there the whole time
